HENRI MATISSE as my reference artist!
His full name is Henri Emile Bonoit Matisse.
Borned in the year of 1869, December 31 at Le Cateau Cambresis, Nord.
He passed away in the year of 1954, November 3 at the age of 84 in Nice, Alpes Maritimes.
Nationality? French
His famous movement is Fauvism but he is also involved in modernism and impressionism.
He was the leader of young rebel artists who bought the modern art movement into being in Paris in the early 1900s.
Master of of color, a supreme draftsman who imbued a relatively small range of subject matter with constant variety.
Henri Matisse's style was unique. His favorite subjects were human figures, still life, and scenes of interiors.
He does not only paint but also made paper cutouts where he would cut out shapes of different shapes and put all of them together to make a wonderful looking art piece.
His superbly simple line drawings rank among the greatest works of art of the 20th century.
Besides that he loved patterns within patterns that is not only the suave and decorative forms of his own compositions but also the reproduction of tapestries, embroideries, silks, striped awnings, curlicues, mottles, dots and spots.
Henri Matisse also worked with large levels of primary colors which created an impression of light and space.
He is the master of simplifying colors and lines more than reflecting the object. As he is part of the Fauves, his colors were pure colors. They could achieve greater effect by using pure colors and the effect of the light in the painting was more beautiful.
Henri Matisse once said :
"An artist has to look at life without prejudices, as he did when he was a child," he wrote. "If he loses that faculty, he cannot express himself in an original, that is, in a personal way."
The reason why I adore Henrri Matisse's work is because of his style of work.
The bold colors, the lines and the way he expresses his artwork.
This actually links to my love for bright and bold colors!
Have fun going through his artworks
